The Culture Alliance Explained

The Culture Alliance is based on the awareness that social reform and cultural renewal cannot be achieved through politics alone. Politics rules, but culture shapes politics. People’s basic assumptions come from cultural institutions—the education system, entertainment outlets, the art world, and media—currently dominated by those on the ideological Left. People who embrace classical liberal ideas have largely abdicated these institutions, thus those ideas cannot penetrate the public’s basic assumptions.

TCA has been founded to address this crucial need. Certainly, there are numerous fine organizations attempting to influence culture, but they are a separate and dispersed lot. Our objective is bring people who understand and appreciate the nation’s founding values into the cultural influence professions and create a grand narrative of cultural renewal, to make a case for the development of a Culture of Liberty in the United States today. The Culture Alliance is designed to build synergy and connection among groups and individuals, resulting in an impact, through cooperation and outreach, which is greater than the sum of its parts.

The Culture Alliance is a revolutionary initiative to transform the American cultural paradigm. It recognizes the following facts:

Real, long-lasting change will not come unless proponents of liberty and personal responsibility embrace culture, contribute to the cultural conversation, and penetrate the nation’s cultural institutions in numbers that can eventually turn the tide.

The Culture Alliance will lead that charge.

How Will We Do This?

1. Community
Through its networking systems, think tank, website, and other educational and communication tools, TCA is working to foster a constructive conversation about culture that goes far beyond complaints, into positive efforts toward creating and nurturing a culture of liberty and personal responsibility in the United States.

2. Career
There are many organizations promoting the nation’s founding ideals that also seek to influence culture, but they are dispersed and often openly fight against one another’s efforts, and hence have not been able to create any real synergy of purpose. Furthermore, their efforts are external to the institutions that make up the Cultural Influence Professions. TCA will penetrate these institutions and the culture itself by recruiting young proponents of personal liberty into careers of cultural influence and connecting already established professionals with them in a way that creates such a synergy through networking, mentoring, and other teaching and professional development opportunities, while reinforcing our unifying set of principles for the individuals in these careers.

3. Influence
TCA is also creating something that does not yet exist but is sorely needed: a think tank dedicated to culture. The current model of a think tank is to educate legislators, government executives, and their staffs and other politically influential parties about public policy issues, with the hope of affecting legislation. TCA will bring that paradigm to the Cultural Influence Professions, with the intention of affecting the work they produce. In a nonpartisan way we will educate the Cultural Influence Professions, and those in them, about the value of a culture of liberty.

A Unique Endeavor.

Working with those who respect America’s founding principles, we aim to do for culture what William F. Buckley, Russell Kirk, and others did for politics and public policy more than fifty years ago.
