Our Strategy
How will we do this? There are three primary areas in American culture that have a broad and persistent influence on the cultural assumptions of Americans. These are
- Hollywood, entertainment, and the arts;
- academia and education;
- Journalism and media.
The goal of The Culture Alliance is to populate each of these Cultural Influence Professions with a growing number of informed and influential individuals, inspired by America’s foundational values, who over time will help change the worldview of the American people. One way to do this is to recruit and influence the decisions of young proponents of liberty and personal responsibility to enter the Cultural Influence Professions, and help educate, teach, and train them to make a difference. We will also identify established professionals in these areas and use the same tools to help increase their impact on young people, on others in their professions, and on the culture at large.
The great opportunity and challenge of The Culture Alliance is to paint a picture, a grand narrative of cultural renaissance, and to envelop aspiring students and professionals in the story. It’s about creating an air of excitement; an awareness that "something is happening here," and making people want to be part of it.
Compare this mindset of hope to the futility and fatalism of so traditionalism today-and the open negativity, fear, and despair of modern liberalism. For many who value the nation’s founding ideas it feels as if we’re running up the down escalator. Even during the Reagan and Gingrich revolutions, and when Republicans controlled all three branches of the federal government under President Bush, proponents of liberty and personal responsibility still felt like the ugly stepchild. That happened because it is a statist, anti-liberty ideology, not the tenets of classical liberalism, that sets the cultural and political agenda for the American people.
It doesn’t have to be this way, and The Culture Alliance will utilize a variety of tools to bring change. There will be a very strong intellectual component and a very strong practical component. In effect we are a think tank not dedicated to public policy, but to culture.

As the project begins, we do not necessarily have to reinvent the wheel. We can and will partner with existing organizations and funnel people toward their programs even as we continue a relationship with them through the Web and other means. We don’t subscribe to the "Not Invented Here" attitude that refuses to acknowledge others’ ability to contribute to this important work, and we don’t require that we receive credit for our accomplishments. What is important is that we help create a culture liberty and personal responsibility based on America’s founding values, however that may best be achieved.
As we grow and expand, we can bring more resources and programs in house if we decide that that’s the best way to go. But we think it will always be important to leverage our big picture expertise and utilize all the outstanding professional resources we can find to meet our objectives.
The following are a few more details about some of these areas.
