Overview of Film School Programs and the Movie Business
The movie business has been a tight-knit group from the beginning. Until the 1950′s, when studios had to release actors into free agency, there were only a handful of powerful men who ran the movie industry. The industry currently holds six main conglomerates that run the movies. Competition is very stiff, yet within the industry there is a great deal of movement due to the lack of steady employment and low pay for those making the movies. For individuals who find success as a Movie Director the work will be challenging, flexible, and rewarding.

Ken Follett’s Masterclass
The basic challenge for the writer can be very simply explained – it is to create an imaginary world and then draw the reader into that imaginary world.

All novelists are trying to do that. Once we get there, different writers may have different concerns. Personally, I want to entertain you. I want you to be thrilled or moved to tears or scared and I definitely want you to be on the edge of your seat all the time, wondering what is going to happen next.

You’re creative. You love to draw, paint, sculpt, write, or design. But what does it take to have a career as an artist? What paths can or should you pursue, and how valid is the stereotype of the starving artist? Pursuing a career as a full-time artist is possible, if you have the passion and the energy.

Career Paths
Artists can typically be categorized into four groups:

  • Art Directors: Art directors develop design concepts for media pieces and oversee the entire creation and production process.
  • Craft Artists: Craft artists hand-make objects, such as candles, tapestries, quilts, and pottery, to be sold or shown.
  • Fine Artists: Fine artists create items such as paintings, sculpture, and
illustrations that are often displayed in museums and galleries.
  • Multimedia Artists: Multimedia artists create images for film, video and other forms of electronic media.
